You love each other. Somewhere along the way, it just got hard.
Maybe it is constant conflict, or a quiet distance that crept in when no one was looking. Maybe it is a kid who has everyone walking on eggshells, a divorce that left the whole family tangled, two households trying to become one, or a grown child you cannot seem to reach anymore.
Whatever brought you here, you are tired, and part of you wonders if you waited too long, or if this is somehow your fault. It is not too late, and it is not your fault. Families get stuck at every stage. It is almost never one person, and a pattern can change once someone helps you see it.
Not sure what your family actually needs?
Most people who find this page are not even sure what kind of help they are looking for. That is completely normal, and sorting it out is part of what I am here for. Here is a simple way to think about it.
The families I work with
One child or teen is the worry, but the whole family feels it.
Step-parenting, loyalty binds, and merging two households into one. (See our post on step-parenting.)
Lowering the tension between two homes, for the kids' sake.
The same fight on repeat, or a distance that quietly grew under one roof.
Grief, a move, illness, trauma, or another big transition.
Adult children and parents navigating boundaries, healing old patterns, and building an honest, adult-to-adult relationship.
What you are probably worried about
If you are hesitating, it is usually one of these. Let me take them off the table.
That I will take sides. I do not. I stay on everyone's side at once, including the person everyone is most frustrated with.
That everyone has to come, and someone will refuse. Not true. Sometimes it is the whole family, sometimes just the parents, sometimes one person at a time. And I am very used to the reluctant family member.
That it will turn into a blame session, or make things worse. My job is the opposite of a referee. We look for the pattern, not the culprit, and we lower the heat, not raise it.
That you have waited too long. Families reconnect after years, sometimes after real estrangement. It is rarely as late as it feels.
How family counseling actually works
When a family is stuck, I do not go looking for who is to blame. I look for the cycle you are all caught in, the one that keeps producing the same fight or the same silence no matter how hard everyone tries. Then we change it together. Family therapy works because it changes the system, not just one person inside it.
I have spent nine years and thousands of hours doing exactly this. I am warm, and I am not passive. I stay on everyone's side, and I want what you want, a family that feels like a team again. You can read more about how we work, or hear how I think on my podcast.
What we are working toward is not a perfect family. It is a family that works. People who can disagree without it blowing up, repair after a hard moment, and stay connected even when someone is struggling. For grown families, it can look like boundaries that finally hold and a relationship with your adult kids that is honest instead of careful.
One honest thing to expect. Real change in a family often feels bumpy before it feels better. When people start being honest and naming what they have held in, it can stir things up before it settles them. That is usually the work surfacing, not failing.

FAQ about Family Counseling
It is therapy for the relationships in a family, not just one person. We focus on the patterns, the communication, and the connection between you, and we adjust who is in the room based on what will help most.
Repeating conflict, disconnection, blended-family challenges, coparenting after divorce, a struggling child or teen, communication breakdowns, big transitions, grief, trauma, and more. If your family feels stuck, it is worth a conversation.
If you keep landing in the same conflict, feel disconnected under the same roof, or are stuck after a hard change and cannot seem to move forward on your own, it is worth reaching out. You do not need a crisis to begin.
Family counseling can help improve communication and problem-solving skills, reduce conflict and tension, increase understanding and empathy, and promote healthier family relationships. Family counseling can also help improve overall family functioning and reduce stress and anxiety for individual family members.
Individual counseling focuses on individual issues and personal growth, while family counseling focuses on improving family relationships and communication. Family counseling typically involves all or most family members and may include joint sessions as well as individual sessions.
Yes. For a situation that cannot wait for the slow pace of weekly therapy, the Family Reset Intensive condenses months of work into a focused time, curated for your family.
Family Counseling in Brentwood, TN
We provide family counseling in Brentwood, Tennessee, for families across Williamson County, in person and by telehealth.
When one person in a family is struggling, everyone feels it. The same argument repeats. Roles harden. It gets hard to tell whether the problem is one person or the way the whole family has learned to fit together.
How we help
We draw on attachment and family systems work, with parent coaching when it helps, to slow those patterns down and help a family hear each other again. We make room for every voice, keep things from sliding into blame, and build habits that hold up after the session ends.
We often meet families stuck in the same nightly standoff over phones, homework, or attitude. What looks like a discipline problem is frequently a connection problem underneath. When the connection steadies, the conflict tends to ease on its own.
Areas we serve
We see families at our Brentwood office and by telehealth across Tennessee. Many come from Brentwood, Franklin, and the wider Williamson County area. When everyone is pulling in different directions, we make it as simple as possible to get the family in the same room.
